I won't buy in an area that doesn't have.... the right schools? Proximity to transit? Parks and rec? Be honest here - consider what might be important to you in 3 - 5 years or more. Will this area meet your needs should you decide to stay?
Moving is expensive so if you buy, plan to own for a min 5 years. Sometimes it's not a bad idea to try renting in a new neighborhood before you commit to the purchase. This way you have a change to test the neighbourhood, surrounding areas and how it works in your daily activities.
Did you know that you can check with the local Police Dept. online or on the phone to find out about the number of break-ins in an area? You can also search the bed bug registry. If you are researching properties near a SkyTrain station, online you can look up if it is considered a safer station than most. There are many options to checking out a neighbourhood before you invest in it.
The best way to help you find the perfect place to live is a local Real Estate expert!
